April 2006: Peggy Greer

“I’m Peggy Greer and  I work at Bill L. Williams Elementary School.  This is my ninth year teaching first grade.

I think the best thing is the growth that we see when they come into the classroom and they have very little knowledge; when they leave they’re good readers, they can add, subtract, write; just a lot of growth that you see in this grade.

I think my favorite thing in first grade is that the children are very passionate about being here, they enjoy school, they really want to learn.

I think I really enjoy teaching them to read and to write which are the two really main fundamentals of first grade.

I never started teaching because of the money in the first place, it’s strange passion with me, I love the children, I love being here every day.

I’d say that in first grade their biggest success is that when we leave at the end of the day that the children are excited about coming back the next day and that they’re thrilled about learning what they learned that day.”
