February 2009: Elia Gordon

“I make learning fun for the students just by having a positive attitude, every single day.

I became a teacher, because my nephew was diagnosed with a learning disability and that inspired me to become a teacher.

The advice I would give my students is to follow their dreams never stop. Overcome all the obstacles.

The advice I would give parents is to spend more time with their kids.  Ask them how school was, have you done your homework and help them get to college.

My teaching philosophy is to help every single student reach their maximum potential.

What inspires me to come to school, to come to work every day is my students.

I think education is the door to achieve all your dreams.”

Elia Gorden teaches at Caesar E. Chavez High School in Delano.
